My glass cherry necklace

These are some of my glass heart necklaces with separate flower bead on top. All glass and ready for a chain.

My name is Vicki Cubeiro. I live in Newport Beach.

Over the years I have done ceramics, watercolor, silversmithing, stain glass, and glass fusing. About two years ago I decided to go back to flame working. It has been my passion of late and I have gone from beads to now sculpture of flowers and fruit. I recently made this cherry necklace of glass. My flower arrangements have been gifts for friends until now..

Flame-working is an ancient art form. Glass rods melted at 2000 degrees on a torch, mine is a Norton Major. I first learned to make beads with the traditional dots and lines. But after about a year,I began to want to do more interesting sculpture.

Working in soft glass sometimes called soda glass is challenging because unlike Borcilica it will shock and crack if not kept equally warm while working it.

It can take hours to create one flower. But well worth it when you make something beautiful and permanent.

Rose buds with lady bugs or daisies and poppies all components to my flower arrangements.

After 50 years of ceramics, watercolor, silversmithing, repurposing vintage jewelry and. glass fusing of bowls and plates…. I finally came back to glass- flame working more specifically.

My flower arrangements are created by blending glass colors and shaping and forming molten glass on a mandrel and then they are annealed in a kiln at 950 for hours so they are firm.

I blend my own colors and use soft glass. It is very sensitive and shocks (cracks) easily. Opening my kiln in the morning is like Christmas.

This is a commission work ordered for an anniversary gift in the Autumn colors.
